The 2016 Grand BeatBox Battle will be held in Basel, Switzerland, between 4 – 5 March.
GON, however, is no stranger to performing in overseas competitions, and the 2016 Grand BeatBox Battle will be his third time at an international event.
In 2015, he took part in both the World Beatbox Championship, and the Vocaloops acappella Loop Station competition in Italy.
He feels the release of his debut album, Gonebea, in 2014 also played a pivotal part in being selected.
“I think everything done over the last few years and especially my last video were key to this event,” he told MXF. “In Berlin I gave my debut album to lots of international beatbox stars, and it‘s good to know that for example, Hobbit listens to it in his car.
“Also It was nice to hear that people remember GON from crazy videos or a different style of beatboxing.
GON believes his participation in the Grand BeatBox Battle will also help him become more exportable to foreign markets.
“After this battle, GON‘s name will be much more known on the international beatbox scene, because lots of people follow and watch this event live and also via Youtube,” he explained. “It’s really hard to be selected to this closed competition, and even harder for a non-internationally recognised artist to be chosen by the jury.
“For the first time in history, Lithuania will take part in the event!
“I‘ll meet world‘s best beatboxers and make new connections – nobody knows what will happen next, but GON export has started.
Despite the event taking place just over three months away, GON is conscious of the competition he faces.
However, he believes he can win the event outright.
“All the competitors have different styles but we will have to use same type of Loop Station. My mission is to be unique, but also use every technical possibility.
“In Switzerland there will be a serious battle and show, so I‘ll have to use a different strategy. For now, though, that’s a secret!
“And can I win it?” he concluded. “Of course I can!
“[But] that depends on many things – the jury, the crowd, the weather… I’m preparing to make it, though, so I have to work, work, work and then fly to Switzerland and win it!”
From all of us at MXF, good luck, dude!
